On July 2th, 2018, the agreement for the constitution of the new Iberian Society of Ecology (SIBECOL) was signed at the Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona (ICM-CSIC). This society will bring together Portuguese and Spanish scientists and professionals of all areas of ecology (terrestrial, marine and inland waters). Promoted by the Boards of Directors of different Spanish and Portuguese scientific associations, such as the Spanish Association of Terrestrial Ecology (AEET), the Iberian Association of Limnology (AIL), the Portuguese Society of Ecology (SPECO) and the Spanish Society of Evolutionary Ecology and Ecology (SEEEE), SIBECOL also benefits from the participation of marine ecologists belonging to different Iberian entities that are not grouped in any society. Thus, the Iberian Society of Ecology aims to be a platform for the interaction and sharing between different areas of ecology, in order to achieve a greater international projection of research and a greater weight in the defense and dissemination of ecological values and sustainability at the Iberian level.
